What is a Dental Emergency?

Any dental problem that necessitates an urgent oral treatment to alleviate severe pain, stop continuous bleeding or save a tooth is a dental emergency. Serious infections may be life threatening, and they should be treated immediately. Because Victory Cosmetic Dentistry is a full-service dental office, our staff has the technology, equipment and training to handle even the most serious dental emergencies. Dr. Gerayli treats:

  • Abscesses
  • Problems with crowns or implants
  • Damaged teeth

Abscesses

A dental abscess is a sign that you have a major problem or infection in your mouth. This dental condition requires immediate attention. Abscesses develop when your body is defending itself against an infection. The abscess is your body's way of keeping the infection contained by creating pus around the area. If you don’t seek treatment for an abscess, it can burst. This will cause the infection to spread. Abscess pain often develops rapidly, and when it does, you may experience agony within your entire mouth. If you suspect that you have an abscess, be sure to call Dr. Gerayli immediately to schedule an urgent appointment.

Crown or Implant Trouble

In some cases, recently completed dental work may cause pain while older fillings can suddenly fail. Both situations require urgent dental care. If another dentist was in a hurry while performing your dental work or completed a procedure improperly by using the wrong materials or tools, you may wind up experiencing an allergic reaction or suffering from a different dental complication like an infection. When dental work is performed properly, you should not feel pain. Dr. Gerayli can resolve pain from bridges, crowns or dental implants. Even if you regularly see a different dentist, Dr. Gerayli will see you for emergencies. Instead of suffering with dental pain, make an emergency appointment at Victory Cosmetic Dentistry.

Damaged Teeth

You can injure your teeth by biting into something hard, falling or participating in an extreme sport. Undetected infections weaken teeth. This can also cause damage to one or more of your teeth. The most common types of damage include teeth that are:

  • Broken
  • Cracked
  • Split
  • Knocked out

Broken Teeth

A broken tooth may leave the nerves and blood supply exposed, and when this happens, it causes intense pain. Your tooth is also likely to bleed. Be sure to save as much of your fractured tooth as you can. If you’re experiencing pain from a broken tooth, be sure to call Dr. Gerayli immediately to schedule an urgent appointment.

Cracked Teeth

When a tooth develops a crack, it may not be as painful as a broken tooth. However, be sure to make an emergency appointment because cracks can become infected. This makes your future treatments more complex, and it may result in the need for more extensive procedures. If you schedule an appointment at Victory Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Gerayli may be able to resolve the problem before it becomes a major issue.

Split Teeth

A split tooth often means that the root is as damaged as the crown even if only the split in the crown is visible. This is another condition that can cause an infection to develop. When a split tooth occurs, your dentist will probably need to extract it to prevent more damage to the area. A split tooth can also cause harm to the surrounding tissue and teeth. This condition is an emergency, so if you have one, then be sure make an urgent appointment with Dr. Gerayli.

Knocked Out Teeth

If one or more of your teeth are knocked out, then you will need emergency care. With quick assistance, Dr. Gerayli will have a good chance of preserving your tooth and reinserting it. If you can, set it back in its socket gently. If this isn’t possible, store the tooth in milk, and call Victory Cosmetic Dentistry’s emergency line to make an appointment. When you wait too long to seek emergency care, you decrease your chances of having it reinserted successfully.

Loose teeth also require emergency care. If a tooth shifts out of alignment or becomes loose, be sure to make an appointment.
